About Us

Vintage Volunteers is a VAST project funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund helping people aged 50+ find volunteering opportunities.

As a team, we are passionate about volunteering and believe it can improve health and wellbeing whilst making a huge difference to local communities.

The project was launched in May 2017 and our experienced and enthusiastic team have a history of working with and recruiting volunteers. We are passionate about the benefits of volunteering and have a great track record of supporting voluntary sector organisations that rely upon the dedication and passion of volunteers.

The Vintage Volunteers Team

Kelly Smith – Vintage Volunteers Project Officer

Kelly joined VAST in 2013 as a volunteer before being employed to support the Volunteering Team. Over the past 7 years, she has successfully supported Staffordshire’s voluntary sector with recruitment and management of volunteers, as well as establishing key working partnerships to enable growth within the voluntary sector. Kelly has also managed the Stoke Volunteer Centre and a team of volunteers to broker and support appropriate voluntary opportunities across Stoke on Trent.

Outside work, Kelly enjoys being creative with recipes and continuously improving her health and wellbeing. This has helped her to develop the confidence to inspire others to volunteer and improve their lives. More recently Kelly has taken to gardening and become a dab hand at growing fruit and vegetables.

Jo Coulson – Vintage Volunteers Project Officer

Jo comes from a background of project work for various local and national charities.

Her own healthcare experiences following a cancer diagnosis led to her to become involved in patient advocacy and she spent several years with Macmillan Cancer Support, working to improve patient experience for local people affected by cancer. She developed a specific interest in social inequalities, particularly those affecting the LGBT+ community and people with disabilities.

Outside of work, Jo enjoys watercolour painting, reading and learning languages.
